12 Ways to Use Citrus this Winter

It has always struck me as ironic, but perhaps fittingly, that citrus fruit is at its peak in the midst of our winter. This time of year, you can find an amazing selection of citrus in the grocery store—grapefruits ranging from red to white (including the sweet oro blanco, one of my favorites), Cara Cara oranges with pink flesh, tangerines of all varieties, bowling ball-sized pomelos, Key limes, you name it. And while I love the hearty winter cooking we crave in the upper Midwest when the snow flies, I welcome the excuse to eat fresh, citrusy dishes in the midst of winter. From orange-scented flan to pomelo sorbet, here are 12 recipes to incorporate winter’s jewels.
