Rum Negroni

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Flor de Cana Extra Dry Rum
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • .75 ounces Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth
  • 1/8 teaspoon Grapefruit Bitters

Instructions

Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing glass with clean ice and stir 30-45 seconds. Strain into a coup glass, and garnish with a few more drops of Grapefruit bitters. Remove a swath of lemon peel from a fresh lemon, squeeze the oils from the peel onto the drink, and wipe any remaining oils on the rim of the glass.

NOTES  Experiment with using a combination of rums. For example, try 1.5 ounces Flor de Cana and .5 ounces of either Neisson Rhum Agricole Blanc (for an earthy/organic flavor component) or Smith & Cross Rum (for the barrel-aged thing we all love). Alternatively, go local and use 2 ounces Solveig Gin from Far North Spirits in place of the rum for a more “traditional” Negroni preparation. The Solveig adds a wonderful mouthfeel, and pairs beautifully with grapefruit bitters.
