Mulled Red Wine
Gluhwein, or a spiced red wine, is a popular warm beverage at European Christmas markets. A German tradition, the very smell of gluhwein will put you in the holiday spirit, as the cinnamon, clove and orange fragrance wafts through your kitchen. This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled for a big crowd.
Christmas Gluhwein
Ingredients
- 2 bottles red wine
- 8 cloves
- 2 oranges, sliced
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2-inch piece of ginger, sliced thin
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Instructions
Combine all ingredients. Bring to a light simmer over medium heat.
Turn down to barest heat setting and let steep for 15 minutes. Serve warm.
