Black Sheep Pizza
One of my favorite pizzerias in the Twin Cities, Black Sheep Pizza brings something different to the table. While I love traditional Neapolitan-style, blistery thin crust pies, Black Sheep’s coal-fired pizza—with its chewy, crisp, sturdy and slightly charred crust—has a nostalgic East Coast vibe that always hits the spot. The menu is simple—a few salads, 12- and 16-inch custom creations and a build-your-own category with quality ingredient options. A few standouts include a pizza covered in fennel-spiked meatballs and fresh ricotta, and the garlicky oyster mushroom pie with smoked mozzarella, sans red sauce. The real draw for the New Yorker in me is their take on a Sicilian, with a thick, bready crust, tangy red sauce, mozzarella cheese, a couple sprigs of basil and high quality olive oil. That’s it, no substitutions. Perfect in its simplicity. Black Sheep is a family friendly place with three locations in the Twin Cities—stop in for a slice after a Twins game, before a show at St. Paul’s Palace Theater, or while perusing the amusements of Eat Street.
