Farmhaus

Contemporary Comfort Food

Chef Kevin Willmann’s adventurous take on comfort food, combined with his locavore philosophy, make Farmhaus one of the St. Louis’ top dining destinations. The Illinois-born chef spent his formative cooking years in the Florida panhandle, and his ever-changing menu marries his Midwestern roots and Southern cooking influences. Think roast turkey with chive spaetzle, Gulf red snapper with spoonbread and country ham, mahi-mahi with andouille and a killer bacon-wrapped meat loaf. On my last visit, I couldn’t get enough of the Butcher’s Plate, an assortment of local cheeses, housemade breads and pickles, charcuterie and a stunning pig ear terrine (pictured above). You can even get breakfast for dinner, a hearty meal of pork belly, housemade maple links, corn-flour blinis, whipped maple butter and a butter-poached local egg. For a real deal, head to the Lindenwood Park restaurant for the lunch blue-plate special that gets you a rib-sticking meal (such as fried chicken), with a couple sides, salad and iced tea, all for just 10 bucks. Chef Willmann is dedicated to supporting local farms, as well as organic and sustainable agriculture, and it shows in the quality of the food.
