Andrew Zimmern Floats Down the Mississippi on Bizarre Foods

Tune in for Bizarre Foods: The Magnificent Mississippi River Aug. 8 at 9|8c on Travel Channel

On this episode of Bizarre Foods, I had the pleasure of traveling from Memphis to Natchez by boat, and got a real taste of life on the Mississippi. This majestic river is a refuge for a slower-paced, nature-based way of life. From freshly caught buffalo fish to wood ducks and mallards, the Mississippi has plenty to offer those who live on its banks.

VIDEO: Watch me make Peppered Oysters, inspired by my trip down the Mississippi to Natchez, where I had the pleasure of cooking with Regina Charboneau.

A few highlights from the episode:

Lima beans and house made sausage … fahk!!!!

Buffalo fish … the best tasting fish that no one eats

Huge sets of roe from the buffalo fish … we ate them unseasoned, fried in a skillet and they were every bit as delicious as the best shad roe. I think Mississippi bottarga is next big thing if someone would make it. Honest to god delicious.
