Morning, Noon & Night at Tejas Express
Located at the corner of Underwood Street and Dan Patch Avenue in The Garden, Tejas Express is an institution at the Minnesota State Fair. They’re serving restaurant quality food reminiscent of the Southwest-inspired menu at the original location, which closed in 2009 after whopping 22 successful years in the biz. With a lengthy menu to satisfy any Tex Mex craving, it’s a must-visit stop on your State Fair food tour, especially for breakfast. From 8 to 11am they’re serving Texas ranch-style eggs, breakfast burritos and quesadillas, and with free coffee included, it’s one of the best deals at the fair. Stuffed with well-seasoned eggs, onions, peppers and roasted tomato salsa, try the breakfast burrito with chorizo or steak, it’s a winning combination. Stop by in the afternoon for one of their famous beergaritas, a walking taco (my guilty pleasure), and maybe a little midday karaoke on The Garden stage—seriously one of the best people watching opportunities at the fair. And for dinner? There’s always more tacos and everyone’s favorite dueling pianos.
