I need your help.
I want to bring your attention to a new café that just opened in North Minneapolis. I’ve been working with Appetite for Change to get a youth training program started at Breaking Bread Café, and I thought you’d be interested. Take a look at the information below (including this video), and let me know if you will help. This is a truly amazing organization with a mission I passionately support, and I think you will too.
Appetite for Change / Breaking Bread Café
In 2013, youth interns at Appetite For Change (AFC) envisioned a social enterprise that increases access to real food in an area that lacks wholesome and delicious food options. On April 30, the vision of Breaking Bread Café became reality, adding life and energy to West Broadway Avenue!
Appetite For Change is a North Minneapolis based, grassroots nonprofit organization whose mission is using food as a tool for building health, wealth and social change. They hope to fulfill that mission by developing an employment and training program through Breaking Bread Café & Catering for underserved youth in North Minneapolis.
On June 22, AFC will launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds needed to get the program started. The money raised will go towards hiring and training young people in the program, staff to lead training, equipment and supplies.
Kickstarter is the world’s largest funding platform for startups and creative projects. It operates as an all-or-nothing system, meaning AFC needs to reach their $40,000 goal by their deadline, otherwise they get nothing and none of the contributions will be processed. But if they reach their goal they’ll be able to get the program up and running, and if they exceed the goal, they expand the program even further.
With any Kickstarter campaign, early momentum is key. On average, the first three days represent 28% of the total amount that will be raised, so starting big is a good indicator for a successful campaign. This is where they need your help.
Help by Matching on Day One
To assure a big start for a successful campaign, AFC is asking for folks to commit to being a day one matching donor. By committing to be a day one matching donor, your dollars will be doubled by giving people more incentive to make a contribution. Plus, you’ll be able to pre-select one of our special rewards before they become available to the public (such as having me cook dinner for you and your friends, or a private dinner party at Spoon and Stable).
Follow this link to commit to being a matching donor here, and see the full list of rewards.
Rewards are on a first-come, first-served basis, and the deadline to sign up is 12:00pm this Sunday, so pledge your contribution and choose your reward now! If you know of anyone else who would be interested in helping, please pass this along to them
The opportunity and life skills being provided to these young people will undoubtedly change their lives and improve the wellbeing of the community for generations to come. Thank you for your support!
