Lend a Helping Hand

On the Minnesota episode of Bizarre Foods, I stop by a small smokehouse near Lake Superior in Knife River, Minn. Russ Kendall’s Smokehouse serves up some of the best smoked whitefish I’ve ever had. Whenever I visit the North Shore, I stop at Kendall’s on the way. Open since the 1920s, the smokehouse has been in the Olson family for five generations, and they are always kind and gracious hosts.

On May 11, 2014,  a fire broke out in the smokehouse and destroyed the entire production area of the building leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage. Find out more about the fire here.
