Mucci’s Italian
Owned by local restaurateur Tim Niver, Mucci’s Italian is one of the best new restaurants to come to the Twin Cities. In a tiny, unmarked brick building in St. Paul, you’ll find incredible food and service in a beautiful, yet unpretentious setting. With lacquered wood tabletops, black leather banquettes and chairs, the cozy glow of golden light fixtures, and a pristine marble bar, Mucci’s is everything a classic Italian red sauce joint should be.
The menu is focused, with made-from-scratch food. All of their fried Montanara-style pizzas are worth getting for the table, topped with ingredients like peppadew peppers, boquerones, and even fried chicken. The fresh pasta is balanced, presenting a toothsome al dente chew, with a soft and supple mouthfeel. The Lasagne Mucci is described on their menu as ‘layers of love,’ and that’s not a lie. It is one of the best versions of the dish I’ve ever eaten—saucy but not sloppy with rich flavors and texture. It’s what your grandmother’s lasagne always wanted to be.
