It’s Amazing What You Can Do With Two Ingredients
Before Chef Thomas McNaughton opened Flour + Water in San Francisco, he traveled straight to the source and studied the art of hand-rolled pasta in Bologna, Italy. The result? A menu of authentic, rustic Italian cuisine, with made-from-scratch pasta, house-cured meats and Neapolitan-style pizzas fired in a wood-burning oven (even the oven is imported from the motherland). Although the restaurant has received plenty of well-deserved accolades, it still maintains a low-key, come-as-you-are attitude with décor to match (think repurposed redwood and natural light). McNaughton’s pastas and pies draw a sizable carb-loving crowd, so arrive early or try to score a reservation.
