A Timeless Neighborhood Eatery
Chef/owner Jimmy Bradley opened The Red Cat 12 years ago, with a simple concept: a less is more approach to food, melding seasonal American ingredients with a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi. On my last visit, over a plate of roasted tomatoes and striped bass, I realized I eat here nearly every time I’m back home. It’s not because I necessarily plan to, it’s just that after a long day running around town, this place always sounds good to me. It’s a place I can pop in for dinner and always leave blissfully content. Frank Bruni once called it, “A place with sophisticated food, but not a whiff of arrogance.” He nailed it. Start out with the quick sauté of zucchini with toasted almonds and pecorino. Follow up with the simply prepared skate with caramelized fennel or tuna with preserved lemon, and be sure to order a side of the tempura green beans with hot, sweet mustard.
