• Maple Syrup Brats with Pickled Jalapenos

By Andrew Zimmern

Have you ever candied a hot dog? Trust me, you need to. I learned this technique while filming an episode of my new show, Family Dinner, in Vermont.

Watch me make this recipe:

Maple Syrup Brats with Pickled Jalapenos

Servings: 4 to 6

  • 4 to 6 bratwurst, or all beef hot dogs
  • 4 cups real amber maple syrup
  • Hot dog buns
  • Pickled jalapenos
  • Pomegranate seeds
  • 1 small head green cabbage, thinly shaved
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • Salt
  • Mediterranean Magic Badia Seasoning

Simmer the bratwurst or hot dogs in the maple syrup over low heat for 30 minutes, until the brats look candied and crackled.

While the brats are cooking, combine the cabbage, lemon juice and salt in a large bowl. Let sit for at least 10 minutes.

Place the candied brats on potato buns, topped with hot mustard, cabbage, a sprinkle of the Mediterranean Magic seasoning, jalapeno slices and pomegranate seeds.
