Celebrating New England Flavors
Chef-owners Matt and Kate Jennings of Farmstead, Inc. have a sincere passion for New England’s culinary heritage. They’re committed to procuring only the best local ingredients for their modern seasonal cuisine, from hand-milled Rhode Island corn polenta, to oysters and sustainable seafood from Narragansett Bay. Matt tailors his dynamic menu to what his trusted suppliers have that day, inspiring experiments with ingredients that have long been ignored in the region. Take sea robin for example, this prehistoric looking bottom-dwelling fish is considered “trash” by most, but it’s one of the most flavorful species I’ve tried and when Matt is preparing it with brown butter, you’re in for a real treat. With an incredible array of locally-sourced cheeses, I’d also put the cheesemonger’s golden-crusted mac n’ cheese at the top of my list (or any of the hand made pastas for that matter), and the cheeseburger with bone marrow “conserva” and polenta fries. The in-house bakery is run by Kate Jennings who has a real knack for delicious rustic desserts, so end your meal with her chocolate chip cookie bread pudding, stone fruit tart or homemade ice cream.
