112 Eatery
Located a few short blocks from Target Field in downtown Minneapolis, James Beard award-winning chef Isaac Becker’s first restaurant is a favorite amongst chefs and service industry folks. That has as much to do with their steak tartare, famous 112 cheeseburger and foie gras meatballs, as it does with their night owl hours and cozy bistro-esque setting.
It’s upscale but approachable, with affordable small plates like fresh ricotta with truffle honey, pan-fried parmesan gnocchi and a skillfully-executed pork terrine. There’s a whole section dedicated to what I would imagine Becker and his team crave after a long night—such as the aforementioned must-order burger topped with brie, fried bread with prosciutto, lamb ribs and Chinese fried eggs. Pasta is always a solid choice, whether it’s the tagliatelle with foie gras meatballs or stringozzi smothered in rich lamb sugo. On a recent visit, the octopus and clam brodetto stole the show with its insanely flavorful seafood broth.
If you can make it to only one of chef Becker’s restaurants (112 Eatery, Bar la Grassa or Burch Steak & Pizza Bar), I’d pitch 112 in the ring as one of my personal favorites. There aren’t too many restaurants that can pull off such a varied menu that draws inspiration from all over the globe, and Becker has done so successfully for more than a decade.
