Bizarre Foods Season Premiere January 23 9|8c on Travel Channel
From the North Woods of the fabled Paul Bunyan to the Mexico City of the Aztecs, this is one of the most exciting seasons of Bizarre Foods we’ve ever made. I’m revealing the food and stories behind notable characters, cultures and mythology, both here in the United States and abroad. I’ve embarked on epic adventures over the past year and I can’t wait to share them with you. Following Napoleon’s footsteps through Poland or exploring the James Gang’s route at the height of their infamy allows for cultural discoveries you would never have any other way.
In the season premiere, I’m driving north from Minneapolis to the Paul Bunyan Trail for a glimpse of lumberjack culture and food rooted in frontier tradition. The larger-than-life logger became an icon of American culture and a symbol of the industriousness of the nation during the logging boom in the upper Midwest. Along the way I’m sampling the beloved food of northern Minnesota, from muskrat, wild rice and duck stew to Amy Thielen’s bear pastrami. And it wouldn’t be complete without a horseradish harvest accompanied by a crockpot-filled potluck party.
