Wise Acre Eatery
It seems just about every restaurant claims to be farm to table. In the case of Wise Acre, it’s part of the business plan. Depending on the time of year, 75 to 95 percent of ingredients originate on sister business Tangletown Gardens’ 100-acre farm in rural Plato, Minnesota, including Scottish highland cattle, Berkshire hogs, and free-range chickens, ducks and turkeys. Produce is grown year-round (greenhouses are key in Minnesota!) and delivered to the restaurant daily.
Offered seven days a week, go for brunch and try the CSA hash, made with whatever’s in season, the “back to bed” french toast with granola and housemade syrup, or a not-as-healthy-but-who-cares salted caramel pinwheel. Dinner options include rhubarb pulled pork with roasted corn mashers, warm cabbage and dill weed, chicken roulade with nettle walnut pesto, and house-made black bean burgers with quick pickles and fries. A verdant living wall adorns the small dining room, that spills onto a gorgeous plant-filled patio when the garage doors open during the summer months. Trying to score a seat outside on a warm Sunday morning may require a wait, but it’s worth it.
