Scientific research shows that if Americans ate just one more serving of fruit or vegetables a day, we could prevent 30,000 premature deaths each year, from heart diseases and strokes. The government is encouraging us to eat the right stuff—I’m sure you’ve seen the nutritional recommendations at ChooseMyPlate.gov—but at the same time they’re subsidizing the wrong stuff like corn and soybeans that are used to create inexpensive processed foods.
